The future of Medicare and Social Security

What's going to happen to Medicare and Social Security when Boomers retire over the next decade? How comfortable can Boomers afford to feel about the effect our retirement will have on the nation's economy? And what's happening on Capitol Hill to address it? A veteran Washington lobbyist looked into his crystal ball to provide some answers.

Resources to aid elderly parents

Imagine a scenario like this one--you get the call from a neighbor living next door to your elderly parent. Your mother has twisted her ankle. The doctors put a cast on her leg. She'll be fine, but  there's just one problem. Your mother lives alone and can't really get around. She's in Ohio and you're hundreds of miles away. What do you do? We explored how to find resources you need with a geriatric care manager from Iona Senior Services, including what to do about talking with your parents and relatives. What's the best way to ask them about what kind of arrangements they'd like to make if independent living becomes harder to manage?

July 25:
Pamper yourself at a day spa

Could you use a little pampering? Who couldn't! We checked out local day spas that can take us away from the stresses of daily living. Northern Virginia Magazine recently featured twenty day spas, and we talked about the best facilities that offer full service facials, massage and waxing, detoxification and other anti-aging and wellness treatments.
