Boomer Business and Making Dreams Come True

Marketing to Leading-Edge Boomers

Do Boomers truly offer marketers a fertile business opportunity? According to Brent Green, president of Brent Green & Associates, and marketing consultant for more than two decades, there is one reverberating answer: "Duh!" If you're an entrepreneur or established business leader interested in capturing this $750 billion market, or just a Boomer interested in how companies market to us, join me for a discussion of Mr. Green's new book, Marketing to Leading-Edge Baby Boomers.

Instilling Respect in Kids: A Lost Art?

In her Washington office, clinical psychologist Dr. Patricia Dalton has "seen small children call their parents names and tell them how stupid they are; ...[A]dolescents use strings of expletives toward them ... and one 6-year-old whose parents told [her] he refused to obey, debated them ad nauseum and sometimes even lashed out. As if on cue, the boy kicked his father right there in the office. When [she] asked the father how he reacts at home, he told [her] that he runs to another room! It came to [her] like a lightning bolt: Not only are the kids unafraid of their parents, parents are afraid of their kids!" Dr. Dalton joins me to talk about her recent Washington Post guest column, "A Lost Art: Instilling Respect," and what she sees as a disturbing development in child rearing and parenting styles, and how parents might change direction.

How to Become a Successful Independent Filmmaker: Tips from a Gen Xer Minus a crystal ball, can an 11-year-old boy really know what he wants to be when he grows up? According to Fairfax native and independent filmmaker James Hausler, the answer is yes! At the ripe old age of 25(!) Hausler has two feature films under his belt, with the most recent release, Wild Seven, now out on DVD. The pulp drama stars Academy Award Nominees Robert Forster and Robert Loggia and movie icon Richard Rountree. Hausler joins me to talk about how Boomers and others can find success in independent filmmaking.
